"I would like to share exciting news about a major exhibition being planned to honor the life and legacy of Emigdio Vasquez: A pioneering Mexican American artist and muralist whose work captured the dignity, culture and everyday reality of the Chicano community in Orange County and beyond."
This December, the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University will present a comprehensive exhibition of his oil paintings To ensure the success of this important exhibition, we are seeking financial support to help cover the costs of: Professional preparation of Emigdio’s paintings Exhibition design and installation
Transportation of artworks
Educational programming and community events surrounding the show
•Printing of a fully illustrated exhibition catalog
Any contribution, large or small, will help us share Emigdio’s legacy with a wide public and preserve his work for future generations.

LA COLECCIÓN CHICANA ART EXHIBIT
The exhibition features images depicting urban life and the Chicano experience between 1969 and 2001 and consists of limited-edition digital reproductions, known as giclées, of original paintings from 26 prominent Chicano artists from the private collection of actor and comedian, Cheech Marin. Marin's collection now serves as the foundation of The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum, which opened in June 2022. Admission to The Chicano Collection/La Colección Chicana exhibit is free and open to view at the Old Orange County Courthouse gallery Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning August 8 through the end of the year. Metered parking is available at the on-site lot and surrounding street parking. Additional parking is available at P8 (301 W. 5th Street). Parking fees apply. Guided school tours of the Old Orange County Courthouse and Chicano Collection/La Colección Chicana art exhibit are available Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning at 10 a.m. Tours are free of charge and approximately one hour, and include an overview of the courthouse, its history, architectural components, historic court cases and art exhibition.

Emigdio Vasquez Fred Ortiz Collection: A Private Fine Art Collection
Fred Ortiz and Emigdio Vasquez first met in 1995 at Martinez Bookstore in Santa Ana, California. One of Emigdio’s paintings was on display for the gathering: Mike’s Pool Hall.
Fred and Emigdio talked in depth that evening, and a few weeks later Fred purchased Mike's Pool Hall. Starting the following year in 1996, Fred would commission close to 40 paintings from Emigdio over the next ten years. This book documents the journey between these two friends.
Emigdio Vasquez was born in 1939 and passed away in 2014. Throughout his 75 years of life, he became known as an exceptional muralist and painter. Some say he is the Godfather of Chicano art.
